📢 Prospective MSc Student Opportunity | Rehabilitation Sciences | Fall 2027

The Artificial Intelligence for Rehabilitation Lab (AIRE Lab) at the University of Manitoba, College of Rehabilitation Sciences, is seeking a prospective Master’s student interested in applying to the MSc in Rehabilitation Sciences for Fall 2027 under the supervision of Dr. Mirella Veras.

About the project

This community-engaged and Indigenous-partnered project will work alongside First Nations and Métis communities, community health workers, decision-makers, and researchers in Manitoba and Saskatchewan to co-develop an AI-enabled digital health tool to support stroke prevention and equitable access to care in rural and remote communities.

The selected candidate will join the AIRE Lab and contribute to a broader program of research focused on digital health equity, telerehabilitation, stroke prevention, AI in healthcare, rehabilitation, and community-based approaches to health.

Who can apply

At this stage of recruitment, only prospective applicants who self-identify as First Nations, Métis, or Inuit will be considered.

Applicants should hold a four-year bachelor’s degree or equivalent in rehabilitation sciences or a related discipline. Relevant backgrounds may include physical therapy, occupational therapy, kinesiology, exercise science, biomedical engineering, health sciences, or another related field.

Applicants should have a strong interest in one or more of the following areas:

• Rehabilitation and stroke prevention
• First Nations and Métis health and health equity
• Digital health and telerehabilitation
• Artificial intelligence in healthcare
• Community health worker support
• Implementation science
• Community-engaged and participatory research

A strong commitment to working respectfully with First Nations and Métis communities, supporting Indigenous data governance principles, and contributing to community-defined and self-determined health priorities is essential.

The selected candidate will be expected to apply formally to the University of Manitoba MSc in Rehabilitation Sciences for Fall 2027 and must meet the program’s admission requirements.

Funding support is available through research assistantship opportunities and project-related work. Tuition and student fees are not covered.
